A collaborative effort with the prime project consultant, design architect, and The HLA Group resulted in the development of a new water intake facility owned and managed by the Freeport Regional Water Authority. As a great example of a civic infrastructure project, the effort combined engineering, public art, architecture, and landscape architecture in a dramatic, but accessible way. Special focus was given to the application of creative finishes such as glass seeded concrete, as well as the integration of public art and interesting landforms to create a truly unique environment. The HLA Group designed the landscape and hardscape treatments to enhance the pedestrian experience within the plaza spaces and to provide visual interest on the levee slopes.
