The Winery, Brewery, and Food Pilot Facility is a key research facility for the Viticulture and Enology program as well as a demonstration of the best practices in sustainable design and processes in the industry. This world-class facility combines laboratory and classroom spaces with a fully-functional winery and brewery. The project showcases the Central Valley's first large-scale rainwater harvesting system for landscape irrigation and lavatory flushing. The landscaping features a juxtaposition of native grasses, crucial for enriching habitat and buffering development at edge sites, blended with an array of adapted and native plant material that reflects traditional agrarian patterns. The project is only one of three LEED-Platinum Certified projects within the University of California school system.
