The Cannery Place Apartments is the first project within the redeveloped “Township 9” master planned community in Sacramento. The 5-story, 180-unit mixed-use project includes landscaped roof decks, roof deck with children’s playground, outdoor community and gathering spaces, and ground-level public park with urban plaza. As part of an overall effort to provide approachable public open space, the plaza features a flexible space that serves the adjacent retail/commercial spaces but also accommodates public events, gatherings, and programming. The plaza’s active edges are separated by a large public green with perimeter seating and shade trees. Brick, concrete and steel materials that were used in the historical cannery previously occupying the site are employed throughout the plaza design and emphasize the “industrial chic” design aesthetic.
