As principal of The HLA Group, Greg oversees the strategic direction and oversight of firm operations and business development practices. With 30 years of experience, he offers design experience on a wide variety of project types with a particular passion for parks and recreation.

A love for the outdoors supports Greg’s calling as a landscape architect – creating outdoor environments that have a positive effect on the community. As an avid cyclist, Greg is a frequent user of the American River Parkway commuting to and from work. Skiing, golf, hiking and spending time in Lake Tahoe further nourishes this love of the outdoors.

As a graduate of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, he has a passion for assisting and advancing student development within the field of landscape architecture as a member of Cal Poly’s Landscape Architecture Department Advisory Council. The ultimate satisfaction of his work is being able to share in the excitement of children and adults using and enjoying the spaces he creates.

Since joining The HLA Group in 2007, Andrea has developed her abilities on a multitude of projects spanning a wide spectrum of scale and complexity. She brings an acute attention to detail, strong technical understanding and the innate ability to problem solve.

As a native of Colorado, Andrea has a fond appreciation for the outdoors - particularly biking, bouldering, hiking and camping. She loves to work with her hands which led her to various jobs with a local plant nursery as well as a landscape maintenance company/contractor. This exposure to plant material coupled with the knowledge of construction guided her towards the profession of landscape architecture. It was the perfect combination of design, the outdoors and creating functional, beautiful spaces.

Since joining The HLA Group in 2011, Hilary has worked on a variety of projects including single family residential, multi-modal transit facilities, streetscapes, parks and urban redevelopment. Her diverse skill set ranges from project management, team coordination, stakeholder collaboration, construction document preparation and graphic imagery preparation. During her previous tenure as a park and recreation professional, Hilary prepared and managed grant applications. In addition, she was successful in authoring numerous award applications and her written work has been featured in magazines for the California Special Districts Association, California Association of Recreation and Park Districts, and the National Recreation and Park Association. Hilary’s love of sports and her involvement in athletics makes her a keen observer of her surroundings; it was these observations which subsequently inspired her to pursue the field of landscape architecture. Her design philosophy is simple - acknowledge culture and history, empower and inspire communities and stakeholders, preserve and maintain open space and nature, and create lasting spaces for generations to come.

Anthony was inspired to pursue the profession during high school after reading numerous books and magazines about land planning and community development – both of which are still great passions of his today. After graduating from the University of California, Davis in 2001, he joined the firm following a career in the design-build industry which gave him invaluable experience in the construction process, building materials and applications. This developed his eye for detail in the production and technical aspects of construction documents and deepened his understanding of the diverse complexities of construction. In his spare time, Anthony enjoys being active outdoors, playing music, and exploring the islands of French Polynesia and the South Pacific.

Ken has worked with the The HLA Group for over 15 years having worked in a temporary capacity with the Natural Resources Conservation Service. Over his tenure, he has worked on a variety of projects including master planned communities, retail centers, urban streetscapes, parks and open space, irrigation renovations, and mitigation planting/surveys.

His interests in the technical aspects of design coupled with is love of the outdoors was his motivation to pursue a profession in landscape architecture. He graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Landscape Architecture in 1999 and attained his professional licensure in 2009. Ken has the knowledge to work on all aspects of a project and his strong attention to detail, technical expertise and recognition of client needs led him to attain a Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor certificate from the Irrigation Association in 2013.

Outside of the office, he enjoys time with family and friends, skiing, kayaking, camping as well as serving at his local church and partner church in Cambodia.

Haley is an Arizona native and graduate of Utah State University’s Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning program. She joined the firm in May of 2017 as a firm intern evolving into her current role as a landscape designer. She is responsible for a variety of production tasks including conceptual design, renderings/graphics development, construction documentation and cost estimating.

Haley’s passion as a landscape designer stems from the desire to create memorable spaces for people all ages - whether it be parks, homes, or public plazas. She satisfies her curiosity for design inspiration through her many travels and experiencing a variety of cultures. Of particular importance was her time spent abroad in Eastern Europe where she lived and studied while developing an appreciation for the historical and cultural differences.

Landscape Designer

Nicole joined the firm as a landscape designer in July of 2018 after a year working in beautiful Santa Barbara. She assists in the design and production of a wide variety of projects including schools, streetscapes and parks. She is most interested in the interaction of people and the environment as well as their mutual influences on the other. The profession’s potential to marry the two is what most influences her designs and feeds her passion.

She also finds inspiration in all things creative, from photography to music, as well as travel and the opportunity to explore other cultures and landscapes. Growing up in the Salinas-Monterey region and her annual camping trips in Yosemite have fostered Nicole’s love of the natural environment. Her interests include running, hiking, camping, biking, and the occasional ski and kayaking adventure.

Nicole is currently working towards her goal of professional licensure. Inspired by her involvement during her undergraduate studies at UC Davis and her degree in landscape architecture in 2017, she seeks to connect younger generations to the profession and instill an awareness of the environment.
