This locally-funded overcrossing widening and freeway ramp improvement project was designed and constructed with oversight from the City of Fairfield and Caltrans. The project addresses changes in land use and local access which resulted in increased traffic demand over and onto the freeway. The overcrossing widening provides two additional traffic lanes as well as pedestrian and bicycle circulation improvements. Project components include road realignment, widening and parkway extension.
The HLA Group provided aesthetic design concepts which included custom-designed pilasters, structural concrete enhancements and patterning, and landscaped medians. These design elements beautified the overcrossing and adjacent landscape. Additionally, these enhancements establish the overcrossing as a gateway feature to the City of Fairfield.
